Ireland:  2021 Centenary of the Truce Bureau FDC
On July 11, the Government officially launched two stamps to mark the centenary of the truce
between the British forces in Ireland and the self-proclaimed Irish Republic, which had waged
the War of Independence since January 1919.
One of the stamps features an excerpt from a letter from de Valera to Lloyd George, which was
published in the Belfast Newsletter newspaper on July 9.
The second stamp reproduces a headline from the Irish Bulletin on the day the truce began.
The Bulletin was the official gazette of the Irish Republic government – after winning the General
Election in 1918, the Sinn Fein party had declared an Irish republic.
This is the Official Bureau FDC
