Original antique bronze / brass doorknob backplate.  This highly sought after "Thistle" design is shown here in Chicago Hardware's 1895 catalog.  The
design elements are attributed to Louis Sullivan and were used in his 1889 auditorium.  A reference picture is included here of a Sullivan Auditorium thistle design - shown here for
reference
