Antique Doorknobs, Doorplates & Lock by Niles Chicago "Le Grand" 1900Description
This handsome Niles door set was made by Chicago Hardware around 1900. The plates are cast iron and the knobs are cast brass, and they share the design that was named "Le Grand". The Victorian vernacular details feature nicely incised tulip chains and beading. Much of the original copper "flashing" remains on all four pieces. The Niles lock, patented in 1878 for its unusual mechanism that doesn't require a connecting rod between the knobs, is in great working order. The knobs and plates have light surface wear. We include a striker to complete the set.
Antique "Le Grand" Doorplates measure 2 1/8" by 7 5/8"; knobs are 2 1/4" diameter. Mortise Lock faceplate is 7/8" by 5 1/2"; depth of box is 3 1/4" and height is 3 5/8". Setback is 2 5/8".
