Officially referred to as an Artillery Sword due to the much shorter length when compared to the 39” and longer swords sword carried by Calvary Officers. The difference in length was mandated by the difference in jobs. A soldier mounted on a horse could carry, draw and use a much longer weapon than a soldier tied to a cannon battery. The design originated with the French Artillery sword model that was based on the Roman Gladius, the standard sword of the Roman legionaries.
The sword replica offered here is detailed to match the design of the Civil War period. The letters “CSA” are centered in the hand guard brass work. Also, the front of the blade features “CSA” in the center. Two belt rings on the scabbard make it perfect for reenactments or a hanging display.
