T B Winter & Son - Antique Brass Surveyor's Level & tripod mount base Pre 1900

T.B. Winter brass surveyor's level in original box.
Label was attached to interior lid: "TBWinter Manufacturers of Surveying, Mining, Mathematical, and Optical Instruments. 21 Grey St. Newcastle on Tyne".
MEASUREMENTS: Level: 12" x 3" (without the base) when not extended. Box: 16 x 4 x 4 -1/2".
CONDITION: Level: No scratches or dents on the surface.
The telescopic focusing action is still quite smooth. I have been advised not to high-polish the brass since doing so would detract from the antique value.
Box: Minor scratches/wear to box consistent with handling and storage. The leather shoulder strap is dried but strong.
The box lock key is not included.
There is a loose label that had been adhered to the box, showing that an adjustment was made in 1943.
The label (shown) is now loose but in the box. The original objective lens cap is also included.
An on-line search shows that T.B. Winter ceased doing business in 1898.
