Description
What interesting doorknobs these are! These "lava" knobs were made by Russell & Erwin around 1887. The design of these interior knobs was patented in 1869, and the various production methods included tightly pressed gum sawdust, rosin, and color additives. This pattern was named "Gothic", and features a four-fold pattern of flowers, foliage, and nicely incised beading. The color is a deep reddish brown on these pieces. Both knobs are is in very good condition with light wear. The two rosettes are newer, appear to be resin, and are a pretty good match for the knobs. These composite doorknobs are quite rare, and very collectible.
